The 5-phase playbook we follow

  1. Phase 1 - Discovery (Week 1). Map your sales process, define stages, document fields. Skip this and everything downstream breaks.
  2. Phase 2 - Configuration (Week 2-3). Set up users, teams, pipelines, products, taxes. Use Odoo’s defaults wherever possible.
  3. Phase 3 - Data migration (Week 3). Import contacts, products, opportunities. Clean the data before you import - never after.
  4. Phase 4 - Custom modules (Week 4-5). Only build custom when stock modules genuinely don’t fit. Most teams over-customise here.
  5. Phase 5 - Training & launch (Week 6). Two training sessions, written SOPs, dedicated Slack channel. Go live on a Monday - never a Friday.

Common pitfalls we see

  • Skipping discovery. “Let’s just install it and see” ends in a redo.
  • Custom code on day one. Configure first. Customise later (or never).
  • No training plan. Software doesn’t adopt itself.
  • Importing dirty data. Garbage in, garbage out - but with audit trails.
